An NFT Strategy for Kusama

rrtti-5220

We aim to introduce a non-fungible token (NFT) strategy for Kusama Network, with the goal of allowing users to experiment with non-fungible tokens in art, gaming and other applications.

NFTs are unique items on the blockchain that serve a specific purpose or represent a specific real-world value, be it digital art, in-game assets, certifications, or even the concept of access (like a ticket to an event). Non-fungible token standards allow NFTs to move easily across heterogenous ecosystems. When a developer launches a new NFT project, these NFTs should be viewable inside dozens of different wallet providers, tradeable on marketplaces, and displayable inside of distinct virtual worlds. This is possible because standards like EIPs provide a clear, consistent, reliable, and permissioned API for reading and writing data.

The focus is on implementing a 5 step strategy that allows NFTs usability first on the relay chain with defined standards, with the support of NFT Pallet and RMRK.app: two solutions that can be deployed right away if combined with PolkadotAssetJS application. A second and third step include the development of Unique Network on Kusama.

I like this kind of experiments, the team has already completed several stages without payments and showed its capabilities at the hackathon, proposal and the budget answer the most frequently asked questions (why kusama?), payments will be made when the milestones are reached. This is exactly what I would like to see in the proposals, my voice is definitely for.

But i have one question.

allows NFTs usability first on the relay chain with defined standards

I don't quite understand how this relates to the idea that has been heard many times that "the relay chain will be as minimalistic as possible".

the relay chain will be as minimalistic as possible

putting aside that this hasn't really held up on Kusama, the proposal does not suggest any new functionality be added to the relay chain itself - rmrk.app for example simply uses the existing system.remark extrinsic as its primary primitive and indexes things offchain.
