Kusama pass

Rejected

Hello everyone,

We’ve already started building an application, including a live landing page, and we are seeking Treasury support to keep momentum. The core idea is a Kusama Pass that proves a user has ≥10 KSM locked for one year and grants guaranteed eligibility for curated raffles, for example, seats in PBA-X cohorts and ticket giveaways for blockchain events. We can pilot inside the Kusama/Polkadot community first to validate utility and operations; if it gains traction, we can expand to mainstream cultural venues (events, concerts, exhibitions) to attract new audiences into the ecosystem.

Asking for 210 KSM to keep working and cover some expenses. Thanks

Hey, interesting concept. A few things I’m curious about:

  • What’s the nature of this lock, and when you say lock 10 KSM for a year, where exactly would users lock it? On-chain via a smart contract, or some third-party custody, or used by the team (e.g., for yield or other purposes)?
  • For the raffles, where will the prizes come from? Will they be funded by you, sponsored by partners, or funded by Treasury?
  • How are winners selected and proven fair? Any on-chain randomness source?

thx @Otar

The idea behind the lock was to keep users active in Kusama and avoid quick selling right after they get the pass. That said, since the first goal is to attract people and keep costs low, just holding some KSM could be enough to qualify. For the lock itself, we’ve looked at using the vesting transfer function to the user’s account. Think it could work. Need testing

We’ll also collect email addresses in the register process to contact the winners and run public raffles. Will explore using on-chain randomness to make the process fully transparent.

Want to start simple and a nice design, which is why this launch is a Canary Edition.

Later on, we can add more features, like tiers and special deals, if the project grows.

Dear Proposer,

Thank you for your proposal. Our first vote on this proposal is NAY.

The Small Spender track requires 50% participation and simple majority of non-abstain votes according to our voting policy v0.2, and any referendum in which the majority of members vote abstain receives an abstain vote. This proposal has received zero aye and four nay votes from ten available members, with one member abstaining. Below is a summary of our members' comments:

The voters expressed cautious interest in the Kusama Pass concept but raised significant concerns regarding its lack of detail. They criticized the proposal for not outlining a clear development plan, team credentials, or established partnerships, and several noted the absence of verified on-chain identity. Although the idea was seen as promising and potentially adaptable for broader applications in both the crypto and cultural domains, the ambiguity surrounding its operational framework and accountability led to doubts about its viability. One voter even suggested an alternative unlocking mechanism tied to balance thresholds, but overall, the proposal failed to secure support, resulting in a NAY vote.

The full discussion can be found in our internal voting.
