Encointer requests retroactive funding for its expenses in Jan-Jun 2024
The amount of the proposed spend is CHF 77’500 ≃ 87’188 USD ≃ 3’904 KSM for 6mt operations
Encointer is a common-good chain on Kusama laying the foundation of a more democratic and more inclusive web3. Its secure and decentralized sybil-resilience protocol enables local communities everywhere to generate their own, autonomous local currency, and use it to stimulate the local economy.
Main achievements in 2024 so far
- Community development and continued growth of Nyota in Tanzania
- Adoption of Encointer faucet
- Prototype for democratic community governance (vote weight based on personhood confidence, not funds)
- Decentralization of infrastructure

In relation to the "Faucet" section, could you please provide a link to the Encointer faucet? Is it part of the Encounter Wallet? Does this YouTube video show everything https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0raQokr-2M ? Where is the source code associated with the faucet and Git commit history?
Prior to commencing any of the work that you are seeking retroactive funding for in this proposal, what optioneering did you do? How did you prepare a forecast estimate of costs involved and first establish consensus with any Kusama stakeholders as to the options that would defined the scope of work that was important and necessary, and that those costs would be justifiable for future retroactive funding requests?
Prior to commencing any of the work that you are seeking retroactive funding for in this proposal, how did you reach out to others in the Polkadot ecosystem requesting access to standard faucet code that could be reused or modified to prevent duplicate work to minimise costs?
When creating any of the work in this retroactive funding proposal, did you generate any new standard pallets that others in the ecosystem may use?

Thank you for your questions.
We'd like to clarify that the Encointer faucet isn't just another centralized webpage. It is a pallet in the Encointer runtime, so it is part of the protocol. Before Encointer this wasn't possible to do in a sybil-resistant way. now it is, thanks to Encointer's proof-of-peronhood. We had laid out our plans for future work in our previous proposal which has been approved without mentionable concerns about our plans besides those who object our entire vision.

The faucet pallet depends on the encointer personhood protocol. Therefore, it is not generic over the sybil-resistance mechanism. The democracy pallet as well. However, the democracy pallet could be used by DAOs on other chains as long as the vote weighting is taken care of (i.e. via XCM or state proofs)
