Comprehensive Open Source Learning Pathway for Aspiring Polkadot Developers
Proposal for a Comprehensive Open Source Learning Pathway for Aspiring Polkadot Developers
Dear Polkadot/Kusama Community,
I trust this message finds you well.
As an Industrial Automation Engineer with a few years of self-study in computer science, my interests have led me down the exciting path of blockchain technology, more specifically, the Polkadot/Kusama (Dotsama) ecosystem. With the intention to transition my career into the blockchain field, I have been gathering and structuring a variety of open and freely available learning resources.
In the process of navigating my own learning, I've noticed a certain gap in the educational materials available for those seeking to become proficient blockchain developers, particularly within the Polkadot ecosystem. The current landscape of resources seems to be largely bifurcated, catering either to complete novices with over-simplified content or to seasoned software engineers and computer scientists with highly complex and specialized material.
I propose that we, as a community, develop a free, open source, at-your-own-pace learning pathway aimed at bridging this gap. This pathway would serve to guide people interested in Polkadot development, specifically from a non-software engineering background. It would provide a clear learning path with extensive explanations of how various concepts connect specifically to blockchain technology and the Dotsama ecosystem.
By focusing on open and free materials, we ensure the inclusivity of this endeavor, enabling people from all backgrounds, including underprivileged communities, to access the information. Learning materials will primarily be based on text to facilitate access to information from even the most remote and underpowered computer systems. Furthermore, it would establish a clear onboarding point for new community members and provide a pathway to success for those aiming to become substrate/blockchain developers.
I have several years of experience as a technical trainer of electro-mechanical engineering and robotic systems and have already begun the process by cataloging and organizing a variety of resources for this new project. I envision this initiative as a community-driven project where each one of us can contribute to the growth and development of the Dotsama ecosystem by expanding our developer base.
A more detailed project outline can be found here.
I would be grateful to hear your thoughts on this proposal. Together, we can make the Polkadot/Kusama ecosystem even more robust and accessible to everyone, everywhere.
Thank you for your time.
Yours sincerely,
Baronvon_bonbon

While I'm still a long way off from any form of initial release, Here is an example of one document in this project. By no means does this represent the finished project, but it does align with the general mission of the project.
The mission of the "Hodler to Coder" project is to serve as a comprehensive and accessible onramp for individuals, irrespective of their technical background, to immerse themselves in the world of blockchain development within the Polkadot ecosystem. We strive to demystify the complexities of technology and software development, providing a structured, cohesive, and self-guided learning pathway that bridges the gap between curiosity and competence.
We believe that everyone, regardless of their starting point, should have the opportunity to contribute to the blockchain revolution. Our mission is to transform passion into proficiency, hodlers into coders, and dreams into tangible reality. By nurturing a new generation of blockchain developers, we aim to foster innovation and contribute to the evolution and success of the Polkadot ecosystem.
What I hope to accomplish is to successfully "glue" resources together with a clear commentary on how the information and technologies build upon themselves and ultimately into the frame of blockchain development.
