KSM Treasury Proposal: KSM Financial Research Project
Proponent : HfFUQ8rt6qD9brCTAtxinzNzPfwn374fhUKP4Lh4R5aKYRM
Date:15.04.2023
Requested KSM :1546 KSM (54,400 USD) in this proposal,
Total request: 1932 KSM (68,000 USD),
I propose an 80/20 payment structure: 80% of the total amount to be paid upfront, and the remaining 20% upon project completion. In other words, 1546 KSM as an initial payment and 386 KSM to be paid after the project is successfully completed. The price for each installment will be calculated on those dates to KSM (35.189 USD per KSM) using the EMA7 rate on Subscan .
Proposal Overview: Hi everyone, I'm Kyle peng. First and foremost, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Polkaworld for their relentless efforts in keeping up with the latest developments of Polkadot and Kusama and for encouraging me to apply for treasury funds. As China and Hong Kong are actively promoting web3.0, KSM, a leading project in web 3.0, lacks academic paper support in China. This proposal aims to apply for KSM treasury funds to advance the KSM financial research project from a financial perspective. Even though KSM and DOT exhibit certain financial characteristics, such as their crowdloan initiatives closely resembling primary market models, the SEC has already classified Polkadot as software, not a security. This project seeks to compose research papers focused on the financial aspects of the Kusama network and Polkadot, examining from a financial standpoint why DOT and KSM are not securities, and drawing on the synergy between finance and academia to reinforce this argument. The objective is to promote thorough discussions within the academic and financial communities in Mainland China and Hong Kong. Our goal is to publish related papers in authoritative academic journals, thereby improving the understanding and recognition of Kusama and its financial attributes in the Chinese market. We especially hope to attract the attention of Hong Kong web 3.0 investment foundations to KSM and DOT. I believe that the Polkadot ecosystem is relatively mature and technically advanced, so it is necessary to let more financial practitioners know about Polkadot.
Before submitting a comprehensive proposal, I am eager to engage with everyone here in a constructive dialogue to explore the feasibility and potential of my project. Your valuable insights and opinions will be greatly appreciated and will undoubtedly contribute to the refinement and success of this endeavor.

**本次申请KSM:**1546 KSM(54,400美元),总申请金额:1932 KSM(68,000美元)

Three points to highlight:
Most initiatives that are geared towards financial endeavours/markets talks have not had much support from the Kusama Community in the past.
This research would benefit from being independently conducted. Is it reasonable to have Kusama as the sponsor and the object of a research that aims to demonstrate its financial robustness?
This research is already entering "murky waters" with statements such as "the SEC has already classified Polkadot as software, not a security" as a preamble. It would help to have a more neutral approach to establish academic soundness.
Thank you for your response!!! that's meaning a lot for me!As these three questions are indeed critical. First, in response to your first question, I am aware that the Kusama community has shown limited support for financial market-related initiatives in the past. I am not a software engineer myself, but I have watched many DOT-related videos on YouTube, and I have discussed it with relevant friends, including the fact that the number of Polkadot engineers has consistently ranked second in the blockchain industry, as well as having technical pioneers like Dr. Gavin Wood as founders and early proponents of cross-chain concepts. In 2022 August, there was even a course held at Cambridge, and I was very excited to see the video, as it invited more elite engineers to participate in the Polkadot ecosystem, making me more convinced that Polkadot is the future. From 2018 to 2020, I worked as an FRM (Financial Risk Manager) instructor and am also an FRM certificate holder. Also I have been working in internet finance risk control from November 2020 to the present. Unfortunately, as I am not a software engineer, I am unable to contribute to the Polkadot ecosystem from a software perspective. However, I do believe that my research project can bring new perspectives and value to the community, deeply explore the potential of Kusama in the financial field, and pave the way for Kusama's broader application through dialogue with the academic and financial sectors. Regarding the second issue of whether this will affect the objectivity and independence of the research, If proposal approved,I will fully disclose in the literature that I have received funding from the KSM Treasury, and I will not conceal this information. In addition, my budget proposal includes the cost of communicating with academic teachers and financial practitioners, and I will retain records of all interviews to ensure objectivity. If I encounter any financial-related challenges for DOT and KSM, I will report the issues I find to the Treasury in my next proposal. Furthermore, the concerns of financial practitioners and academic teachers about DOT and KSM during the collaboration can also be shared with the Treasury, providing a reference for future Treasury proposals. Regarding the third point, I obtained this conclusion from the Web 3 Foundation, so I believe it is a fact, rather than a "murky waters" statement, reference: https://web3.foundation/press/dot-has-morphed-and-is-software-not-a-security Finally: I would like to mention that this is my first proposal, and there may be many shortcomings. I genuinely appreciate any feedback, even if it's opposing the proposal. I would like to know the reasons so that I and others can understand the issues with this proposal, for which I would be grateful. Even if this proposal is not approved, I will still think of other proposals based on my abilities, as I truly love the DOT and KSM ecosystems.
Could you please elaborate?
It might be more useful to focus on research related to the functioning, economics, incentives and spending of the network as it works in practice if this were an area you were interested in.
Hello mrb, thank you for your advice. From your suggestion "research related to the functioning, economics, incentives, and spending of the network as it works in practice," I think that's a wonderful suggestion. I will reconsider my proposal and think about how to develop it around these aspects.
