Green Bay Dollar Advertising Campaign - the First Encointer Implementation in the USA

Hello everyone,

Back in February we opened a discussion about funding system parachain implementations using Treasury funds, and the feedback was very helpful! Essentially, we realized that our campaign plan was too shallow and needed to be matured to something more robust. As such, we consulted with a few advertising agencies in our local area to see what the options were and what the costs would be.

In short, we came up with a campaign that leverages the services of two major advertising/ media companies that utilize outdoor, digital, and broadcast advertising to spread awareness of Green Bay Dollar, Encointer, and Kusama. This campaign is estimated to generate over 4 million* impressions in the hopes to onboard new users to the Kusama ecosystem. The primary goal of this campaign is to give people in our locale a real reason to join the Kusama ecosystem. During our planning, we focused on measurable ROI and even turned down opportunities that looked good on paper but whose results were not clearly measurable. The result of our weeks of planning and consideration is, what we believe to be, an affordable and effective advertising campaign for this common good technology built on Kusama.

You can review the full proposal here.

  • 3 months* of advertising in the Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA area
  • > 4,300,000* impressions
  • $36,355* = 1,069.64827 KSM (EMA14 - Kraken trade data from 3/28/23 to 4/11/23)

We are opening this discussion/ poll for feedback before we commit to an on-chain proposal, so please share your thoughts and questions in the comments.

Thank you!

Hey Adam, I really appreciate the success criteria section. It is nice to see you approach this proposal with a ROI mentality for the chain! Would it make sense to split these criteria up into monthly or quarterly targets? Would the commitments with the third parties be on a yearly basis or could they possibly be negotiated to a smaller time period with possible extension? It might be great to split this proposal up into monthly/quarterly milestones with clearly defined success metrics for each. Instead of token holders approving a yearly lump sum up front with an uncertain ROI a milestone based approach would allow us to reassess (and possibly pivot) along the way to ensure that we are maximising ROI for the network. Maybe we will quickly see one or the other campaign outperform the others. Being able to act upon any learnings along the way to ensure future funds are allocated more efficiently could be very interesting. Maybe it is also interesting to start with just one campaign and build from there. I see some of the campaigns like the geofencing are billed monthly.

It's a bit more than I had in mind in $ value as testing the advertising waters, but I like the premise and execution.
