#2089 6 Month Funding of the Paraverse Content Creators
Hello everyone!
Bounty 12 has evolved over the past few years into an impressive content generation machine that supports early-stage creators on their journey to becoming confident and independent stewards of the story of Polkadot and Kusama by incentivizing them with KSM rewards and sub-bounties. Now we're taking the next step forward. In an effort to decentralize even more, Directors of specific units will now completely and independently head their units while utilizing WagMedia's tools to further the growth of the creators incubating under their tutelage.
This proposal aims to continue the funding of the Paraverse Content Creators (previously General Unit) which supports creators who report on and create original content to help promote Polkadot and Kusama, especially content focused on parachains, the relay chains that secure them, governance, and general principles collectively held by the community. For greater than a year, creators within this group have generated content on the relay chains and nearly every parachain in the ecosystem. This content has been produced in many different formats including interviews with founders, long-form articles, Twitter threads, YouTube and TikTok videos, and more.
The tools and methods we use to evaluate and reward content have improved as well and you can learn all about the proposal here.
We are excited to continue sharing the story of Polkadot and Kusama and would love to hear feedback from the community. Thank you!

First, I want to thank the WagMedia team for all your effort in spreading the word about Polkadot/Kusama ecosystem.
This project is a MUST-HAVE for our entire ecosystem bc allows and incentivizes regular users to create and when you create you learn and when you learn you teach and when you teach, you create...
Also, ALL users are welcome to improve their skills and learn with others in a simple and easy way. There is no more decentralized way to incentivize people to create content about Polkadot than WagMedia (once applying for tips is WAY complex for a user who just creates an awesome Twitter thread).
Another relevant point is the language lounges and the writer's room. We are building together a strong Polkadot community and discovering new content creators/influencers to teach new users about Polkadot in an easy way.
Well reasoned, and a cornerstone of what WagMedia is doing. Has my full support (as do the sister proposals). Really loving the autonomous direction these have taken, feedback from previous rounds of funding really taken to heart.
A well thought out proposal covering the difficult work assessing the highest volume coming through the system. A great example set for other curators with more specialized missions.
I was honestly surprised by how efficiently the Paraverse Content Creators has handled the distribution of incentive rewards and the amount of submitted content.
This is a very clear proposal. An easy yes for me!
Thank you for submitting this proposal for review by the Kusama community. Indeed, quality content creation is key to distributing information to web3 users so that they can make informed choices and decisions for themselves and by themselves.
A few comments on the proposal:
-
Context: The proposal document itself does not clarify the relationship between WagMedia and the new initiative proposed. I am not very familiar with WagMedia’s architecture, so it is hard to understand the big scheme at play here. All in all, it would help to include a section about what is happening re: this initiative and WagMedia internal restructuring/expansion. This document should stand on its own shoulder as much as possible without requiring readers to know/research the ins and out of WagMedia’s operations.
-
Content: The proposal document repeatedly mentioned impressive content produced by talented creators, as well as commissioned content (i.e Dot vs Not, etc.), but there is no link to the content itself. As you can guess, it can be a bit tedious to sift through Twitter posts from people's profile. Could you please provide direct links to creators’ publications related to this proposal, just like you did for Vampsy’s report?
-
Model: The proposal document has detailed information about the initiative’s goals and objectives, but there is still a bit of information missing on the WHO and HOW of this mission. I wonder, for example, if there are any other team members involved in this initiative apart from CSaint02, Goku, and Blinkin. If so, what are their prospective roles and past achievements? I’m also curious about how you plan to onboard new content creators into this initiative. Will they be sourced from WagMedia exclusively or can people from the wider crypto community looking to make a difference join in?
-
Findability: I understand that there are ongoing narratives in Polkadot and Kusama ecosystems that are dear to community members, but one of the most important aspects of content creation and dissemination (i.e marketing) lies in naming conventions that will effectively support SEO (i.e indexing, ranking, keyword matching, etc). It seems to me that “Paraverse” is too niche a word and not very easy to link with Polkadot/Kusama in the mind of cryptos users outside the Polkadot/Kusama bubble. Most people have heard of Polkadot and Kusama, so why not use these for the sake of visibility/affiliation?
I look forward to your answers on this very promising proposal. Thank you for you time! 😊
Bonjour Anaelle! Great to see you here. Thank you for looking over the proposal and giving some constructive feedback. I can lend my opinion on how I see the progression of Bounty 12 and how Wagmedia's decentralization is playing out, but I want to point out that it would be more of my opinion and that of the Paraverse Content Creators' vision rather than the other arms that are moving in a similar, but maybe slightly different direction. The wiki also breaks down the structure in even more detail for those that are interested in discovering more about WagMedia. With that being said, let me break down your questions!
include a section about what is happening re: this initiative and WagMedia internal restructuring/expansion
Bounty 12 was opened about 8-9 months ago to incentivize the creation of quality educational content related to Polkadot and Kusama on the back of a network that is now considered software. Parity and the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystems have never been about pump and dump or heavy shill marketing and many prominent members of the community felt that this marketing and educational content could be produced in a Web3 fashion. Community based, grass roots, user-perspective marketing.
The architecture that arose in result of Bounty 12 was relatively straightforward. Wagmedia was the brand - a content production house that incentivizes the best and brightest content creators to come to Polkadot and Kusama to create educational content. Directors have specific focuses. One on the general parachains and the relay chains that secure them, one on NFTs/metaverse, one on DeFi, one on news finding, etc. Bounty 12 also laid the groundwork to improve the functions within WagMedia such as a Marketing arm that these content creators could tap in to. A writer's room where content creators can drop in their articles, threads and scripts to be vetted by experienced professionals and their fellow creators alike. A tiered rewards system to more objectively incentivize quality content
As OpenGov arose, there came an opportunity to appeal to the token holders more directly and decentralize WagMedia into the naturally forming groups of creators so that the voices could be more independent, lightweight, flexible and decentralized. WagMedia is now a tool that these groups can use to further their content's reach, improve their skills, and hone their brand, rather than the main driver behind it all.
Our group hopes to use the reward distribution bot and tiered system, the marketing arm, the writer's room, etc. within WagMedia to help foster current and future creators.
I hope that makes sense!
Could you please provide direct links to creators’ publications related to this proposal
Only because you said please! These are selections based on my personal assessment of Content. I encourage any of the creators who see this message to post their own favorite pieces of content.
Abdulbee: Fellowship Overview and Understanding Anonymous Proxies
FVK: Lots of deeply researched and well presented content such as this thread on Moonbeam's Illuminate
Zooeys: A very talented graphic designer/infographic extraordinaire like this one on Polkadot's structure and this one on understanding blockchain
There is much....much...more, and it would take quite some time to compile it all. I will ask the creators to drop one or two of their favorite pieces for voters to review as I can see how quality itself can be subjective. This is why we created a tiered system!
[Are] there are any other team members involved in this initiative?
No, it is just the two of us that will be directly compensated to review content and are the only two who will be able to disburse rewards. This is a security issue as the bot recognizes discord handles and we don't want the funds to be accessible to anyone. However, the community frequently gives each other feedback without expectation of compensation. sometimes it is fact checking, other times it is to help people improve as they have been helped
How [do] you plan to onboard new content creators into this initiative?
There are many ways. First, the Paraverse Content Creators are completely open to whoever wants to create content! You just join the WagMedia discord server and begin contributing. Directors will bring you along and you begin recieving rewards as a Tier 3 creator off the bat and eventually progress based on content quality, responsiveness, ability to grow and adapt, engagement with the Marketing Arm and other signs that show you are working to improve your craft rather than rake in rewards with low quality content.
We see people join in organically through asking around, brought in by friends, etc. One of the best ways new creators onboard is when Parachains leverage our group to help deliver content. For example, Moonbeam, Astar, etc. may want to get the word out about an initiative and they will drop a bounty within our server and/or announce it on twitter, discord, etc. and new creators join the server to get rewards from those projects. Many times, these creators stick around, join our group and began to improve their craft as noted above.
Most people have heard of Polkadot and Kusama, so why not use these for the sake of visibility/affiliation?
I think the naming is simply for our sake. The intention and initiative isn't to grow the brand of the Paraverse Content Creators as much as it is to help foster individual creators to develop their own brand and become independent content creators themselves. The honing of this brand does focus on those principles you mention such as SEO and findability. We encourage creators to use $KSM, $DOT, #Polkadot, etc rather than paraverse, dotsama, etc. when creating their content.
It depends on their audience for a given piece of content as well!
I hope that answers your questions, happy to respond more if needed
I have asked the creators to drop two of their top pieces of content in this excel sheet. I expect it to continue to grow as more see it! Great feedback
Thank you very much for this very extensive follow-up, @csaint02! 🤓 Your response perfectly showcases the incredible amount of planning, reflection, and organisation that goes into your collective.
