Teach Polkadot & Kusama knowledge through a Forms Quiz

userSrSlayer

I'm SrSlayer, Polkadot & Kusama Ambassador.

A few months ago I did a test to encourage learning about the blockchain. This experiment turned out to be a success so we want to make it something formal and constant.

This proposal seeks funding for the creation of “Polkadot Forms”, a series of forms and tests, both in English and Spanish, that will allow the community to learn and test their knowledge in a dynamic way. Each form will deal with a specific topic of the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystem and will be distributed weekly during the months of November, December and January.

The goal of these test sets is to keep the community active in learning about the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystem and motivate them using a healthy and positive contest dynamic. All this to create a formed community and appeal to new users who want to learn in an original and fun way.

You can see the full proposal here.

Further community feedback may be found on this tweet.

I cannot express how happy I am to see a proposal that takes a much more down-to-earth approach to Polkadot Education.

There are WAY too many half-baked publications available in this ecosystem designed to create "engagement" rather than actually give users a way to make sense of the ecosystem and its developments by their own means/reasonings.

On the other side of the spectrum, there is way too much focus on the technicalities and jargon that do not mean anything to newcomers and ordinary users. Since they don't assimilate much of these concepts, they are stuck in a place of rehashing and/or copy-pasting what they read somewhere else.

That said, I have to pick on a few things said in the proposal:

"Every end of the month a joint call will be organized through Google Meet where all those people who were participating in the weekly forms will be invited. In this monthly call, an online contest will be launched through the Kahoot platform that will bring together the topics learned throughout the weekly forms. The online contest will take place in real time while participants are on the Meet call. "

The biggest problem that I see with this "real-time" meet is that you might end up locking out certain regions of the world due to the difference in time zones (i.e when Latin America sleeps, APAC is awake, etc.) . Are you planning to rotate these meetings at different times of the day to give people from all around the world the opportunity to join in from one month to the other?

"Until now, there’s no similar initiative that aims to provide users with training through an accessible, updatable and dynamic system."

I partly disagree with this. Dot.alert() has been running monthly quizzes that cover their DotSama content in a dynamic fashion (i.e there is no repetition from one quiz to the other because new content keeps being published).

Finally, I personally would like to see success metrics that incorporate Google analytics. For example, set a minimum number of unique participants + a minimum number of world languages. For example, you could say that your target is to get at least 50 unique participants across 5 different native languages for each form. This, combined with your email screening, will help ensure/monitor that the forms are reaching a wider audience over time, rather than remaining a niche for some happy fews.

TL;DR: I love this initiative! ❤

Hi Anaelle! I'm glad you like the proposal. I totally agree with you. Although the ultimate goal is mass adoption, in this proposal we focus on community learning, so that users have a knowledge base about the ecosystem and know how to make good use of the network. First of all, it’s true that the time-zones are very important when creating this type of test and it is something that we hadn’t contemplated. We have discussed it and, in order to make it as fair as possible, we will take the opportunity to ask the time availability of the participants in the weekly forms. In this way we can give the opportunity to participate to the maximum number of possible participants. The schedules that we will propose to choose will be: Monthly Quiz in Spanish: 18:00 UTC / 19:00 UTC / 20:00 UTC Monthly Quiz in English: 13:00 UTC / 14:00 UTC / 15:00 UTC On the other hand, until now I didn't know about the Dot.Alert initiative and I think it's great. Regarding the success metrics, we’re going to add an estimation of unique participants in both English and Spanish languages. Thank you very much for your observations and suggestions.

As other comments stated, it's a great "down-to-earth" initiative which aims to reach the more active users. It's a way of learning where motivates the participants to get to work and find the information by themselves. I'm sure that the NFT as a price would attract users, but have you thought about other kind of rewards? It could be monetary such as fix amount of DOT/KSM or other type such courses, learning material, exclusive calls with Parity/Web3 members, private chats, etc. It might help to attract more participants and with different interests. Also, it could be a good idea to include into the budget the time/resources to promote the quiz. In any case, great and original initiative!

Hi, I love your suggestions. I'm very happy to see the interest in this initiative. Of course, as this project progresses we would love to include prizes of all kinds, I appreciate your comment and I will note your ideas for the second round. Currently we want to get PolkadotForms up and running in the easiest way possible to see the interest of the community in this kind of projects. I am sure it will be well received and soon we will be able to include new strategies and prizes. I hope to see you for the Quiz!
