Kusama/Polkadot Network Snapshot Education and Resiliency.

Hello Treasury Team:

1KVnode is a team in North America focusing on the validators ecosystem recently. We find that providing a decentralized infrastructure for the community is important and key to their recovery in a degraded situation. Having multiple mirror copies of snapshots will assist the community to increase their ability to handle the recovery time.

We are expecting to provide snapshot services in Polkadot, Kusama, and Westend. Nevertheless, we feel that Westend, while being a test-net, it plays a role in many alpha developments of various applications.

We want to help the community by providing additional instructions for new validators in several languages (English, French, Chinese, Spanish). They will be posted on various social medias. In the meanwhile, we are also looking to decentralize the snapshots service to more service providers out there than the existing ones that we know.

We welcome feedback from the community and the official team,

A copy of the detailed proposal can be found here.

Sincerely,

1KVnode Team

Hi,

Thanks for the proposal. A question and a note:

  1. What pruning level are you planning to support? We have plenty of pruned snapshots, but not sure if we have enough archive snapshots. Do you consider providing archive snapshots for all 3 networks?
  2. Proposal states support for RocketDB. I think you meant RocksDB.

Thanks,

Thanks for the input, 1 - the primary goal is to start a platform with pruning for Validators at = 1000. 2 - Full node archives, that was discussed and researched that this has to be a subsequent project as the complication due to data sizing is much different to handle, this has impact on download/upload compression time and also sizing. 3 - You are indeed correct about the typo :) and thx you for pointing it out. Thanks for your comment, this helps us to understand our approach and requirements. 1KVNode Team.
